Happy Mother's Day! As you know, there's no shortage of reasons to celebrate here, especially when it comes to celebrating mom and your not so humble servant's birthday. I've had the good fortune, or misfortune, depending on how you look at it, of being born on Mother's Day, and sometimes it gets complicated to make plans or celebrate my birthday, because nobody can take the place of the queen of the house. That's why I've decided to celebrate the entire month of May, so my birthday doesn't go unnoticed like Mother's Day. So let's get ready for this very important month. Something really interesting that happens to me is that, as I try more and more wines from different regions and with different characteristics, each season my palate selects favorite wines that meet certain expectations, or simply have something that surprises me. This year has been all about white and sparkling wines from different regions like Napa, Queritaro, and South Africa, and here are some options for you to enjoy with mom. Napa Valley Chardonnay. This year I've had the opportunity to try some Chardonnays from this region, and what surprised me most is how different they are from other Chardonnays I've tasted from California before. California Chardonnays have a rather buttery character, colloquially known as buttery chards. With many malolactic notes, a lot of pastry, and a relatively high level of sweetness. The Napa wines I've tried completely break this mold. They're fresh with slightly citrusy and floral touches, but they maintain a slightly creamy character that makes that fresh and pleasant sensation last much longer. While Napa wines in general aren't the most affordable, members mark wines in the U.S. are very reasonably priced and of good quality. Sparkling wine from Cueritaro. Analogia wines originate from the Bernal Valley region of Cueritaro. Made using the traditional method, this brute sparkling wine is one of my favorite choices this year for celebrating, starting an event, kicking off an evening, or simply for toasting and enjoying. Its fine bubbles and fruity characteristics make it perfect for awakening the palate. South Africa. From the Stellenbas region, Bloclipin's Chenin Blanc offers a fruity wine with green apple characteristics and a fresh, citrusy touch of eureka lemon. Likewise, as in the tradition of some areas in southern France, we also find notes of fresh grass and a hint of guava, which provide a balanced touch to counterbalance the acidity, along with a very subtle and flavorful note of asparagus. Which of these options would you choose to celebrate, Mom? And which one would you join me in a toast to another year? See you next time. Health!
